Celebrating Black History Month at Oasis Putney

Celebrating Black History Month at Oasis Putney

Our new Parents’ Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Network, 'Belonging', are hosting Black History Month at Oasis Academy Putney. We are calling out to our lovely parents to contribute, to mark and to celebrate the month alongside our students and the Oasis Community. We have quite a few activities scheduled during the month for our children to experience and enjoy:

  • Wednesday 12th October 2022, Book Launch Assembly - Kind Obi. Author and Oasis parent, Kamapala Chukwuka will be talking about her new book.
  • Monday 17th October 2022, 3:30 pm to 4 pm – “Cook your Culture Day”. This will be an opportunity for our children to taste foods from different cultures and countries! We are looking for parents to bring in a few food samples for this event that belong to your culture/country and are close to you. African/Caribbean tasters will be very much appreciated. Please can you email Fazeela on fazeela.khan@gmail.com and she will send you full details on how to participate?

  • Tuesday 18th October, 3:30 pm to 5 pm – “Carnival & Non-Uniform Day”. It will be a fun-packed afternoon with some of our Year 6 student volunteers displaying their amazing drumming talent, led by our own Ms Lou. We also have a traditional African drummer who will perform a dance and chant with our children, with audience participation! £5 entry fee. Forms will be sent to the children in the coming week with more information.

  • Friday 21st October 2022 – “Show Racism the Red Card & Non-Uniform Day”. Children are encouraged to wear red for a £1 donation.
