Eco Month at Oasis Academy Putney

Eco Month at Oasis Academy Putney

We are having a real focus on our Eco targets at OA Putney this month and have provided many opportunities to connect with our school families and our local community, there is a chance for everyone to get involved!

As part of their work on Global Goal #14 ‘Life Below Water’, and to support our Eco Target of ‘Marine’, Year 3 took part in a litter pick along the towpath of the River Thames and the Beverley Brook.  They did a great job collecting litter and preventing it from falling into the water and also, in collecting litter that had been washed up from the river in the high tide.  Other classes have worked hard to carry out various litter picks around our school grounds and the Common.

Eco Target Waste: Waste Week

To further support our Eco Target of Waste, as a school we have focused on battery recycling and thanks to the efforts of our school community we have already collected and sent off over 500 batteries to a recycling centre.  We are continuing to collect batteries so please keep bringing them to our battery bank in the school foyer.

We are also very excited to launch our new recycling venture: our very own clothes recycling bank at school, thanks to ‘Kids Just Recycle’. As families donate their pre-loved textiles, these will be collected, sorted and redistributed, giving them a second lease of life to people who need them.  Also, our school will receive funds for the textiles we donate so it is a great way to raise additional funds for our school and also teach pupils about the importance of recycling to help keep our planet safe.

Eco Target Transport:

As a school, we are celebrating joining in with the Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel, the UK’s biggest walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling to school competition.  This inspires pupils to make active journeys to school and each day this week teachers will record the number of children walking or wheeling to school.  So please, wherever possible, try to choose active ways to travel to school!
