The Scrubbery at OA Putney turns 3!

The Scrubbery at OA Putney turns 3!

We are celebrating this week as the Scrubbery, based here at OA Putney has its 3rd birthday. If you’ve not heard of the Scrubbery before now, it is a special hub sewing scrubs and other essential protective clothing for NHS hospitals and healthcare providers across South West London.

Led by Rosie Taylor-Davies the team has now provided well over 26,000 items, including sets of scrubs, masks, laundry bags, headbands, scrub hats, and gowns to hospitals and healthcare providers in central and south-west London, including Charing Cross, Ealing Hospital, West Middlesex, and any more hospitals. They have also delivered items to meet emergency requests, including Afghan Refugees via the Little Village Charity, and the Royal Navy after the volcano eruption in St Vincent and the Grenadines. Most recently to help in Ukraine, the Scrubbery has provided scrubs, camouflage nets, and several truckloads of more general aid items.

The Scrubbery has received a number of awards including the Wandsworth Mayor's Pin Badge and Roll of Honour for a significant contribution during the Covid-19 pandemic, the UK Point of Light Award from the Prime Minister's Office, and many more.

Rosie has also made many items for our academy including, a jumper for our reception class’s teddy bear, and whiteboard rubbers from unwanted fabric for our pupils. As an academy, we are proud to have this partnership with Rosie and her team, and they’ve been a great help in contributing to enrichment opportunities and supporting our green initiatives by making sure we don’t waste a single thing.

Our wellbeing champions have helped out with the Scrubbery by preparing wellbeing bags filled with gifts to be sent to NHS workers. Rosie has taught our pupils sewing skills and techniques and showed examples of work the Scrubbery has made, inspiring a new generation of crafts-people.

Our Eco Champions have also interviewed Rosie about The Scrubbery, which you can read all about here: https://www.oasisacademyputney.org/news-and-events/latest-news/news-post-page/~board/putney-news/post/oasis-putney-eco-champions-interview-rosie-from-the-scrubbery
