In our Year 2 Outdoor Learning lesson, we took a walk to Beverley Brook to build on science work done in class on materials.
We wanted to investigate which natural materials would float or sink by standing on the bridge and dropping them into Beverly Brook (we really enjoyed it when this turned into a game of Pooh sticks!!). This inspired the children to make their own mini rafts using only natural materials.
They worked really well to practice their knot-tying and lashing skills as they made the frames for their rafts out of sticks and then added them to natural materials from the forest floor. Year 2 pupils were a little reluctant to lose these to Beverley Brook, so someone had the great idea to test them out on our school pond – thankfully, they all floated!!
